Quite a few of my coloured pencil drawings feature a weathered paperback copy of Lawrence Durrell's "Avignon Quintet". This is not surprising as the book has often served me as a kind of parallel universe. In another drawing (left) it forms part of a totem-like structure. In this instance I liked the way that age and use/misuse had combined to form the curved edges.

ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting the blog Neil
DeleteI am the proud owner of two Lennon sketches of books. One a totem structure, the othe Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. Both the book and the sketch are very important to me.
ReplyDeleteWell now Neil, I might just make another "attempt" on "Infinite Jest" sometime. As you know the last assault ended in a tactical retreat after reaching first base camp (around page 70 or so). I was happy about make a drawing of that particular copy though, knowing about your intimate engagement with it. To see it framed and hanging on your wall in Co. Claire was very satisfying...
